Simple syrup is simply sugar dissolved in water. It takes just a couple minutes and a few cents worth of sugar to make. And it keeps for weeks in the fridge. There’s no need to spend $5 on a bottle from the store!
You’ll want to have some on hand to use in a variety of cocktails and drinks, such as the whiskey sour recipe I’ll share next.
For storage, try using a plastic squirt bottle. They make it easy to dispense the exact amount of simple syrup you need. I like having a few of these available to store homemade sauces, dressings, and syrups.
This recipe can easily be reduced or doubled, depending on the amount you need. Just remember to use equal parts sugar and water.
Not only is simple syrup necessary for many cocktails, but it makes mixing up cold drinks at home much easier than trying to stir in granulated sugar. With this recipe, homemade lemonade is a breeze! And I will often add a used up vanilla bean from making extract to this recipe which makes it perfect for iced coffee!
Next time you have a few free minutes, make some simple syrup so you’ll be ready for cocktails anytime!
